Submissions

Submissions to Books For Monsters are closed.  (Sorry, we are snowed under right now. Submissions will re-open in January 2010, after the third edition of Books For Monsters goes live.)

Response time is anywhere from a day to two weeks. If you have not received a response after two weeks, please feel free to follow up with an email.

We publish fiction with a focus on action and adventure.  Stories may fall in to the categories of  humor, horror, sci fi, fantasy or any other genre, but the main focus of the tale should be on either action or adventure, preferably both. We advise browsing the site to get a feel for how things work around here before submitting.

Promotional Works  (Quid Pro Quo Advertising For Authors)

If you’re a writer promoting a book, anthology or other work of literary merit, Books For Monsters will  consider publishing fiction in return for advertising your work on the site.  Under this arrangement you will not be paid any monetary compensation for your story. However your advertisement will run for at least one month, potentially longer depending on negotiated terms. If you would like to promote your works via this channel submit the story you are offering for publication with the note ‘Promotional Work’ in the subject line.  Ideally, the story should be unpublished elsewhere.

Otherwise, compensation is as follows:

Flash Fiction – $5.00

Up to 500 words.

Fiction in a flash! Some say such fiction can’t be done, but we, we know better, don’t we?

Super Shorts -  $10.00

Between 500 and 2000 words.

Short stories you can illicitly read on your allotted bathroom break.  These are our favorites because we have a notoriously short attention span. Blame television and the sugar IV we’ve been carrying around since birth.

The Middle Path- $ 15.00

Between 2000 and 5000 words.

Not too long, not too short.  Caught in a cosmic limbo, stories of this length are also looked upon kindly by the powers at Books For Monsters.

The Main Event - $20.00

5000 words and up.

Longer stories with bite. The real meat of the Books For Monsters sandwich of doom.  Many come and few are chosen.

Guidelines

  • Send your submissions to editor@booksformonsters.com
  • Send in .rtf or .doc format. Submissions in other formats will be fed to the hell hounds.
  • We don’t accept reprints (okay, we might if they are super, but not at the full rate, email us and we’ll talk.)
  • Simultaneous submissions are fine.
  • We pay via PayPal at time of publication.
